I recently took a course in cataloging and classification as part of a masters of library science degree program. This Crash Course manual from Moulaison and Wiechert was our primary text for the class. The book provides a thorough introduction to creating bibliographic records with the RDA content standard and conveying that information through the MARC encoding language, but it never gets so deep as to become overwhelming. It starts with general information about cataloging and defines the requisite terminology. It then goes into how RDA is related to the FRBR model (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records), how the two work together to describe the fundamental characteristics of the FRBR group I entities (work, expression, manifestation, and item), and the corresponding MARC fields used to encode that information. The second half of the book discusses the basics of assigning subject headings using controlled vocabularies and determining call numbers for the Library of Congress Classification or Dewey Decimal Systems. An appendix includes sample MARC/RDA records that are helpful for reference.When you're actually cataloging, you'll be using mostly online tools like the RDA Toolkit, Cataloger's Desktop, Classification Web, the Library of Congress Authorities, or the MARC21 Standards, but you can't just dive in and hit the ground running in those resources without knowing what you're looking for. It's like if you try to learn Chinese writing, you probably have to study for at least a year before you can even figure out how to use a Chinese dictionary. This book lays the foundation upon which you can build further cataloging knowledge using more advanced resources. As much as possible for a metadata language, the text is written in plain English that is easy for the novice to understand, rendering an intimidating subject manageable. I had no prior experience cataloging, but by the end of the semester I felt confident in my ability to create bibliographic records in RDA and MARC.

Book is excellent,BUT THE BINDING HAS ALREADY BROKEN!!!!! Very good text. (I am self studying the material) I hope never to buy from this publisher again. I had to remove the binding and staple each chapter so the book could be read.

It was easier to gather the concepts by reading original peer-reviewed articles than trying to get it from this textbook. The style is confusing and the graphs are not well explained. One might find it palatable if one has a background in economics but for those to whom the subject is new, this textbook definitely not a good starting point. And chapter 3 is a joke: its title "statistical tools for health economics" promises an explanation of econometric statistics but instead delivers a shallow introduction to basic statistical concepts. If you have taken statistics before, you will find the chapter poor. I wonder how I would have found the rest, had I taken economics before.

intresting reading. very conceptional，lack of practic example and case study. require basic calculars math background in understand the model setting. topics are very broad to cover all you need to know，but it doesnot provide enought extension.

Chapters are each about 20 pages long. Well explained, just enough detail. Not overly simplified nor overly complicated. Chapter summaries helpful; and questions for deeper exploration into topics if desired.

Well written. Great resource for my students.

If you are having trouble with bulging discs , back pain, knee or shoulder pain, this book is a must. A friend of mine told me about this book when I thought my career as a auto mechanic was over due to chronic back, neck and shoulder pain that was so bad I couldn't lift an air gun. Once I started reading this book I could not put it down. The testimonials are from your average person to pro ball players. This method requires you to take several supplements a day, drink plenty of water and do some stretching exercises which are very clearly explained. Within 2 days of doing the stretches for the shoulder my arm pain was nearly completely gone and the strength in my arm was back. Dr Ming is a genius. They should teach this mans knowledge in physical education classes. I had two Dr's that wanted to operate on me to fix my problem. I could go on with this review forever but just trust me, buy this book. It has helped so many people that I've recommended it to. One had been going to physical therapy for 2 years and now, after following this book, he is no longer been milked by his PT.

I bought this book after reading the reviews on Amazon and was not disappointed. My main source of exercise is from practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (which Ming also practiced), and once in a while I develop tightness and pain throughout the back/side of my neck and shoulder that cause tingling and numbness down my arm. The last time this occured, I was in pain for almost two months. Tui na and acupuncture helped in the short term, but after leaving the clinic, the tightness would quickly come back and I would experience pain again; I wasn't getting permanent healing from these treatments. Out of desperation, I was able to find this book and decided to give it a try. It took me about about 10 days before I started feeling much less pain, and this was from following the first step: taking supplements (I only took fish oils, which I never took before folloing this regimen) and drinking 2 liters of water a day. I then began doing the stretches detailed in the book specific to my trouble areas and I was back to normal a week after that. I would say the supplementing and re-hydration process contributed to at least 65 - 70% of my recovery. It really opened my eyes to just how vital that portion was. The stretches do a great job at decompressing the spine and stretching out the muscles/fascia to the point where I can hear it happening. Before this book, I didn't even know what fascia was and just how important it is to muscular system.Fast forward a year later and I'm still practicing BJJ and experiencing the same pain again - which is why writing this review. I stopped taking the fish oil (although I don't recall it being a requirement) and began to stretch less and less frequently after the pain went away (although I'll still do it on and off after classes). I previously completely skipped the strengthening portion of the book, which I feel is a vital part of the prevention portion of this method, and it made me realize why I was back in pain again. Picking the book up again after almost a year, I'm reminded of all the useful information that this book contains. I'm following the regimen again, and it's making a world of difference after several weeks of repeat discomfort and pain. Regardless of what type of exercise or activity you do; if you're experiencing muscular discomfort or pain that is affecting your movement and range of motion, I would recommend you give this book a try.

You can read the most important part of the book in a couple of hours. First you have to do a preparation phase of about 10 days before you begin the stretching. You can begin the myofascial release exercises during the preparation phase, but shouldn't begin the stretches until after the preparation phase. The book was easy to follow; however, if they made any improvements, I would move the stretches to the end of the book to make it flow better. The myofascial release section is a little hard to follow, but after you try it a couple of times and reread it a few, it makes more sense. I believe this will definitely help as I know my issue is with myofascial tightness and pain.

The book needs more diagrams and pictures. It also needs something more specific than start your stretches from the top and work your way down given that they stretches are not described in that order. The section lists the stretches for specific ailments really should have been a table with every stretch in the book in their recommended order, then columns to the right with a check mark if it is recommended for a specific issue.

The exercises are great in relieving nerve pain and muscle tightness that I have had all my life. The supplements were also very helpful in alleviating systemic inflammation. I recommend this book to everyone. The author was kind and helpful, taking time out to correspond with me.

I bought this book from Amazon at least a year ago. This year, I began to have carpal tunnel issues, and noticed that if I did his carpal tunnel exercise (each one takes ONE MINUTE) daily, that symptoms began to subside. Then I started doing the two most important ones which Ming speaks of as being the best of all in the book: the Hip Flexor Stretch, and the Low Back Stretch. Immediately my decades long poor balance began to clear up, my posture automatically straightened up greatly, and my walking gait became freer.I am so delighted w/these short exercises which I do faithfully every night before bed, that I have given up all the taiji I spent 7 years and many hours daily learning and doing.What a great gift; thank you, Ming Chew!!! Ming is an expert in his field. I have purchased this for myself and as gifts for friends. We are at that age where we are getting some periodic aches and pains. It's clear Ming knows his stuff. I plan to systematically work through this book. Some of the testimonials are amazing where people were able to heal themselves and prevent surgery. I hadn't been exposed to the world of myofascia release but the concepts seem sound. I'm exited to get more in depth in this.

This book compiles a number of texts on beetle husbandry including all the complete guides to breeding beetles which includes the two chapters that were in For the Love of Rhinoceros and Stag Beetles by Lai & McMonigle 2001. These chapters were already greatly expanded and updated for the 2006 flower beetle and jewel scarab book so they may bear little resemblance to the originals. The complete guides also include rhinoceros, stag, darkling, and dung beetles. There's also a new section on longhorns, longarm scarabs, dermestid beetles, tiger beetles, passalids, and many others. Originally, I thought it would be easy to combine and update all the texts but it took longer than any of the books.

Orin has been a wonderful resources for our bug keeping needs. This book (beetles) is full of gobs of info on tons of species - wild collected or captive bred (there isn't a lot of other sources for info on keeping wild collected species in any serious capacity).I have been exceptionally happy with this book.One thing to be aware of, this is not a cook book. In the case of care of most of the species treated in this book you will have to read and reread the appropriate section, take notes, and formalize a plan on how to prepare and perform the care. It is not full of lists of the materials you will need, nor lists of steps, nor easy to reference charts on temperatures, humidity, and development times.

The Ultimate Guide to Beetles is truly just that. Ultimate! This is a must have book for anyone from beginner to full blown coleopterist. It is a wealth of information from a well known and highly respected author in the invertebrate hobby. The book is very easy to read for even the non scientific casual hobbyist and contains all the "tips and tricks" needed to keep, breed and successfully raise a multitude of species. Everything from Cetoniidae to Dynastidae, Rutelinae to Tenebrionidae, this book truly covers it all! Included in the book are several chapters on some very rarely kept species about which husbandry information is virtually nonexistent. For a great many years beetle breeding has been very popular in numerous Asian countries (namely Japan and Taiwan) and in parts of western Europe, much the same way the tropical fish hobby is popular in the U.S. In these countries you can find beetle specialty shops where everything required for beetle breeding is readily available much the same way fish food, filters, water conditioner and the like can be found in the states for the fish hobby. Now unfortunately no stores like this exist at the moment in the U.S. and virtually all literature on the hobby is based on the assumption that the reader has access to everything already made and available at the local beetle shop. This makes it very hard to try and fill in the necessary gaps (food, substrate, wood/leaf choice etc.) of breeding in the U.S. This is the only book specifically made for the hobbyist who doesn't have access to anything prepackaged and shows in great detail how to do everything yourself. I've been waiting for countless years for a book of this caliber to come to the U.S. hobby and the wait is finally over! McMonigle's materials contain some of the most detailed info on inverts available today. They are for the most part based upon solid first-hand experience rather than high-flying academic interpolation. A must for any serious hobbyist!

It is jam-packed with awesome pictures and breeding information for a wide variety of species. Some species mentioned in the book have not been bred by many breeders. This book is innovative and accurate! 5 stars!

Quite informative, would preffer if it had some more step-by-step tutorials on stuff like making fermented substrate and rotted logs but other then that very informative even for someone not inside the us :)

Excellent book. If you are interested in anything to do with bugs, arachnids, inverts, yo cannot go wrong with Orin's books. They're a valuable addition to anyone's invert library. Excellent resource for information and great pictures.

I’m hoping this book will help me on the upcoming tests I have in OB this semester. If not then hopefully the NCLEX.

Love it

As a nursing professor, I love these FA Davis Test Success products. This Pediatric test success product is not different. It is an NCLEX style question and answer review of the topic and of course, this is for pediatric nursing content. All Davis products in this particular series used the RACE Model to help students do better with answering of nursing NCLEX-style type questions. This model is one that I also reinforce with students which is a simple model but is a key to help students figure out the correct answer especially when they get their answer choices down to 2 alternatives. This book has a chapter on pharmacology, growth and development, then looks at the various health issues associated with pediatrics. The main thrust of this resource is the test questions with rationale and they look at the rationale for both the correct and incorrect answers. They also use the RACE method throughout the book as well so they use what they preach. At the end, there is a comprehensive exam for practice. So, this is a comprehensive "success series" resource that I highly suggest that students get and use as they take the various courses in their nursing program. While I teach Fundamentals (and yes, there is a Fundamentals Test for Success version), I think this is one of the best series that I have come across. Also, I think that the future editions will be updating (at least that is what the book rep. has told me) the questions to be more in line with NextGen (Next Generation) of the questions most like to be on the future NCLEX exams which will be in full swing by 2022. So, with 900 NCLEX style pediatric questions, alternative-format questions, and rationales, along with a free 30-day trial to the Davis Edge NCLEX-Style questions which has 10,000+ questions on all areas of testing on the NCLEX, what is not to like!

There will be Pediatric focused questions on your NCLEX and you'd better to be ready when you take the test. Davis Q&A Success Series has 900 NCLEX style questions to really get you thinking and prepared for the test. Most of the questions have a helpful hint alongside the question.There are comprehensive sections on most body functions, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and respiratory included.Spend time with alternative materials and build a strong foundation and base. Like other NCLEX exam guides, each chapter contains an overview of the subject matter followed by a multitude of sample questions. The correct answers are listed and followed by lengthy and detailed explanations for why it was the chosen answer. Among the areas covered are neuromuscular, digestive, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and respiratory.Test taking hints/strategies are also suggested. In addition, users get a code that enables them to access the online version, which includes an additional 10,000 NCLEX style questions to test yourself with. Access is granted only for 30 days but this should be more than enough. Overall this an excellent and comprehensive resource.

In the tradition of the Davis Success Series, this resource is widely recognized as a near "must-have" for the diligent student. We have a couple RN's in the family and they agree. Well presented in a Q&A style with test-taking tips included. This 2019 third edition appears up-to-date. Of note (regarding current concerns), I searched the pharmacology section and then the index, regarding opioids. Nothing there. However, as this volume focuses on pediatrics, I suppose that is acceptable (and . . . I trust that this text is linked fully to the actual NCLEX issues).

"Pediatric Success: NCLEX®-Style Q&A Review (Q&A Success)" by Beth Richardson PhD RN CPNP FAANP is presented in a way that has few distractions. Each chapter is a subject matter to review. The first half in a chapter are questions and the second half are the answers with specific explanations for what is correct and what is not correct. Interspersed are test taking hints/strategies but again, it is presented in a way that reduces distractions and allows the reader to focus on the subject matter. The straightforward presentation is the best feature of this line of books and it delivers at that level.
