Good quality!

This book has 10 authors and it shows. The highlights for me were chapter 4 & 5, which outline some very interesting advanced techniques, and chapter 8, which has a detailed performance tuning case study. I was disappointed in their treatment of XSL-FO in chapter 9. It's difficult to write about a moving target, but I thought Eliotte Rusty Harold's XML Bible did a much better job, and his second edition will be out shortly. I was also disappointed that the authors didn't address grouping problems (Muenchian grouping, etc.). Overall, the book does seem to target the MSXML platform and goes into a lot of depth with that product, though other products are covered. The book does concentrate on portable XSL and discusses the uses and shortcomings of proprietary extensions. Overall, Professional XSL is a good reference, more so if you concentrate on Microsoft platforms, but you'll probably want to supplement it with additional reference material.

I'm a developer currently working on a large-scale multi-platform project, which uses XML and XSL extensively.The book seems to cover all aspects of XSL in great depth, with plenty of code to illustrate how to apply the techniques the authors introduce.As a programmer used to more traditional procedural languages, I hadn't realised the paradigm shift that working with XSL entails, but this book has kick-started my enthusiasm for XSL, and has shown me what it can really do. The stylesheets I'm writing now are going down very well at work, and one in particular completes its transformation almost 50 times quicker than the code we had previously (no exageration)!I'd have to disagree with one of the previous reviewers who says it is concerned solely with MSXML!! Although it does cover this technology in one chapter, this isn't a surprise as the book tries cover all aspects of the XSL field. Most of the book is concerned with platform-agnostic tools and techniques, based on the current W3C standards. We use a lot of java in my company, especially as servlets, and this book was pretty indispensible when I was trying to get my stylesheet to work in tandem with servlets and JSP. The one gripe I have is that the book is rather skimpy on Formatting Objects, and if that's your thing you might be disappointed.Nevertheless, I'd recommend this book to anyone seriously working with XSL, and although it's not a book for novices, it's an excellent reference that you'll keep coming back to.

To be fair, this is not an easy subject. However, they give a short chapter on XPath, and then thrust you into XSLT. That would not be bad IF, during their weak XSLT explanations they would also explain the XPath in their examples. Not only are the explanations weak, but the writing style of the authors is not clear and intuitive. Don't get me wrong, they do explain them, but not clearly.I have been reading Wrox books for several years now, I have always learned a lot from them, but I have to say this is the absolute worst Wrox book I have ever read. I would suggest finding a different book.Sorry Wrox, I normally very much enjoy your books.

On page 122 the author say:"XSLT 1.1 changes recommends that the node-set() be deprecated" Then, the author begin to use node-set() to make some long examples to explain several important concept like "param", "variable", "include", "import"... I do not understand why. Many important( if not most ) examples are depends on "MSXML" own extensition. I would suggest the book should be named as "Professional MSXML". Of course it is a good book if you prefer "MSXML".

This is a useful overview of the current state of artificial intelligence. The author has clearly been swimming in these waters during his academic studies and professional career. I came away with the sense that his thoughts and observations were based on close personal experience and careful analysis. If the area interests you, I think that you'll find that Dr. Kaplan is an experienced guide.What are some of the major areas that the book examines? He examines the definition of artificial intelligence, considers its intellectual history and explores the frontiers of robotics, computer vision and speech recognition. As he looks at the philosophy of AI, he explains his position on whether computers can think, have free will, possess consciousness, and have feelings. He doesn't think they do and deems it unlikely that they will.The author also examines the effect of AI on law, human labor (basically jobs) and social equity. These issues currently affect much of our political discourse. Since I think that much of our society fails to appreciate the economic and social effects of technology, the book addresses matters that, in my opinion, need more of society's attention. The book looks at the possible future impact of AI. The author believes that the future impact of AI will likely mirror that of other technological advances; in other words, that with time AI will be viewed as simply another tool to be employed for good or ill.You should be aware that the book takes time examining philosophical issues such as can intelligence be defined or accurately measured (probably not in the author's view), what are free will and consciousness (difficult to define in humans and probably impossible to define in machines) and feelings (whether computers will ever have feelings is mostly a matter of a human's personal choice). Will artificially intelligent machines ever rule over us (probably not, but no one's 100% sure)? This reminded me of another book published by Oxford on Complexity which described emergent conditions such as one or a number of water molecules do not possess the condition that we call "wetness," but a lot of water molecules in one place are commonly described as "wet". Maybe if we get enough of these machines connected and operated under a range of algorithms, then humans may discover that, as a large number of water molecules are "wet," a large interconnection of computers suitably programmed may start to look "intelligent," whatever we may mean by that.Dr. Kaplan provides a broad and useful overview of artificial intelligence. If the topic interests you, I recommend it.

Kaplan moves easily from weak and strong AI, automation to robotics, humans to autonomous beings. At first....I thought this was utter nonsense, but as I read on, I realized there is an element of genius to this approach---being, that's how AI is now...and will be in the future. AI isn't new, and is already quite pervasive in our society. My only real complaint, is that moving so casually between levels of AI, it seemed cavalier and confusing at times. I guess the reader is to assume that strong AI is possible...or that digital brains in humans is possible. There are bits of sci-fi he used in the storytelling that undermined his personal ideology, which is...we are nowhere close to strong AI (I also believe this). Nonetheless, it was a good read. I would recommend this book to other people.

This is a quick and informative read. First, what is AI (it's essentially automation), what are the techniques and how is it advancing ? I got a little bored with the discussion of Free Will and whether AI can exhibit, and not just simulate, human traits, but at least it was brief. More interesting and even quite scary was the prediction of how AI will in the next 20 years or so replace many human workers, possibly 40% or even as many as 70% as I interpret the text. The author offers some ideas about how to handle the economic disruption, but the situation looks pretty grim to me. Good to know about it, though. Finally, I am a little less worried about the Singularity (Skynet / Terminator). These AI are appliances and nowhere near human level -- yet.

The book is OK. It has interesting parts, is easy to read and gives a general overview that will be of interest to many.However, in my view, it is too simplistic, at least for those who already have a basic understanding of AI. As many, many books on AI it hardly scratches the surface, and gives little understanding of the inner workings and real cases applicability.I admit I may be asking too much from this book, but I was expecting more depth. Also, in the last chapters, the author goes off the tangent and starts treating topics that can hardly be considered AI.

Less on hype more on practical developments in AI.Great read and well written in easy to read language without a lot of jargon

Cuts through the hype and helps the reader glean some useful knowledge about the topic. The author frames the "why" very well, which helps understand how AI is being used today, and where it might go next.The book is pretty jargon-free, so the concepts should be quite accessible for most readers.

Very informative and well written providing excellent understanding of a difficult subject.

I recently read a book by Russian archaeologist Yuri Shilov that suggests that there was a civilization much older than Sumer, and it existed in modern day Ukraine. The civilization is called Aratta. Sumerian writings mention Aratta, so it did exist and the Sumerians knew of it. This would be my first guess as to where the Sumerians came from. The gods of the Arattans were the same as the gods of the Sumerians, gods like An, Enki, Enlil. Shilov seems to have made an open and shut case proving where the Sumerians came from, until someone refutes it, which of course is possible.Asking where the Sumerians came from is less interesting than asking why they were so developed. Why did they know much more about astronomy than every other civilization? Why were they so far ahead? How do you go from being hunter gatherers to using irrigation systems, having a written language, dividing the hour into 60 minutes and the minute into 60 seconds? The only answer that seems to make any kind of sense at all is that they didn't discover all of these things. They were taught these things. Hunter gatherers aren't going to discover astronomy and divide minutes into 60 seconds. That's insane. It seems like it should be obvious to a five year old that someone taught the Sumerians. So there was an advanced civilization on earth long before the ancient Greeks and Egyptians and Sumerians.Who was it? Was it Atlantis? Was it extraterrestrials? These answers, Atlantis and extraterrestrials, provide the only reasonable possibilities that I know of. There is a great prejudice in our culture against taking either Atlantis or extraterrestrials seriously. Academia's reaction would be ridicule. But it's the best we've got, so academia had better change its attitude pretty damn fast. What we have is Atlantis or extraterrestrials. That's what we're stuck with now, so we'd better start taking both of them very seriously and stop laughing.By "Atlantis" I mean any advanced civilization similar to the legends we all heard, whether or not it was in the Atlantic Ocean or identified itself as Atlantis. And if that's the answer, how did they get so evolved?We really seem stuck with either extraterrestrials or supernatural creationism. What the hell else is there that would fit the bill? I'm thinking there's nothing else. And the fact that our culture resorts to ridicule angers me. There's actually nothing farfetched about the possibility of extraterrestrials appearing anywhere in the universe, or about supernatural beings "from another dimension" which we would call gods or creators or designers.I wouldn't be surprised at all if we eventually found out that extraterrestrials appeared anywhere at all in our universe, in any galaxy, around any star. Why is that farfetched? it isn't. It's completely possible and reasonable.Nothing farfetched about visitors from another planet coming to any damn place they want. We'll be doing that ourselves soon enough. Is it farfetched to believe that we ourselves exist? No? Then why would it be farfetched to believe that someone else does?There is an intellectual cowardice in academia. Scared to take a reasonable possibility seriously because you will get laughed at. That's why Copernicus never came up with anything at all. He was scared of ridicule. No?

I wish I had read the negative reviews more closely. This is not a book, it is more like a pamphlet with some information about the Sumerians, without maps, illustrations, listed author(s), page numbers, edition/print information, sources, bibliography, etc. It doesn't have a Library of Congress entry, or any other information that could give a clue of who wrote it. Reading Wikipedia would have been more informative and free. The "book" even lists Wikipedia as the source of the cover photo.It contains exceedingly dubious statements, such as that the word "legal" comes from the Sumerian "lugal" while in fact comes from the Latin "legalis". Then it bring up the far-fetched possibility that the Sumerians could have been extraterrestrials, presented on pretty much equal footing with any other theory about their origins. This is a completely useless "book".

It is a quick read with info about leaders and a little about the culture. It seems more questions can be answered if someone would decipher those millions of tablets. I don't know if it is important to think the Sumerians came from somewhere on boats, maybe they did. If someone believes in God, it is not implausible that they came out of nowhere. How are the other cultures in the area known about? That I am not sure of. I think some more pictures of artifacts or examples of the tablets and maps would make this a little more engaging. The figures on the cover are interesting. One looks like he is wearing a mask.

A worthwhile, short read. Could have dealt a bit more on notable Sumerian literature, e.g., the Epic of Gilgamesh, and the connection to the Old Testament.

This book states 2019-2020 and has not been updated. Info is still in 2015-2016. Have found many errors also. Several wrong answers in quizzes. Do not buy!

The only reason why this study guide is receiving any star below five is because of its graphs. Those graphs and charts included are blurry and hard to read. Some the the labeling on those charts are printed too tiny. However, that only makes up a tiny percent of the book's content. If you can look past that, this book contains all of the information needed to study for the CMA exam. From definitions to terminology to test questions with answers and explanations, this is a must have. For this price, it would make an excellent study guide if you're also on a budget like me. The book's content is great at breaking down the knowledge areas and discussing/teaching it to the test taker. I liked that the most about this book. Overall, great study guide for the price! I recommend using it.I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

I am a high school principal. This book will be an excellent resource for the students who are considering careers as medical professionals. Some students may even decide to take the CMA Exam while they are still in high school, so we will add this book to the library of outstanding study guides. The book passes my test for the 5 C's of communication: clear, clean, concise, concrete, and compelling! High school guidance counselors, please add this book to your library!

I've kept a copy of this in my office each year for the past three years in a row - it's a solid study guide that is easy to use and easy to read...except this year. As another reviewer mentioned, the print for some of the charts/graphs is slightly blurry making it uncomfortable to view. Aside from this slight set-back, the content itself remains reliable. Good option but publisher needs to correct the print copy.

This book is very thorough when it comes to studying for certification. It covers all areas studied. My boss at my work place ask to borrow it when she teaches her CMA Class to ensure to teach the area in its entirety.

There is an exam (Which you already know) and this is the type book you need. This book would also be good if your not sure this is the career for you, as it details questions and allows you to really know what the job entails.This is one of the longer study guides I have come across at 284 pages. There is also a free CMA Test Prep book you can order - and you should, its free after all! But the real meat that you need to go over is the first 2/3 of this book, as it reviews Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, Professionalism, Communications, Laws, and Privacy, Administrative and Clinical Concepts. and follows all these up by practice questions. I prefer this type of book as it allows me to reveiw the material I will be tested on first. There are a few blank pages after each section so that you can make notes.What I did first was take the test - which identifies the weak areas and tells me where I need to concentrate my review. (There is nothing wrong with doing the review first, of course). Do as many different review questions from as many different sources as you can as it really helped me.I received this book from the publisher at no cost to myself, this is my voluntary review.

Like other Trivium study guides, this is a great resource. The pages are able to be written, and highlighted, in. They are thorough and to the point on what needs to be studied. I recommend Trivium study guides in your home library to help in needed areas.

Her parents are biracial and her skin color is not the same as either one. So she's talking to friends and looking at different things that are shades of brown, like peanut butter and chocolate, but none seems exactly right to describe her special skin color. The key to solving her dilemma is her love for her parents. Simone clearly has a positive view of life and loving relationships with her parents, so she creates a color related to her feelings for her family. It's a winner and an inspiration. At the end of book author Fields invites young readers to find creative names for their own skin colors. Illustrator Moises provides warm, colorful backdrops that makes us like Simone and her family and environment instantly. Nice work.

A very real depiction of the inner life of a child who is struggling to answer the question, "What color am I?" Simone is not black like her mom or white like her dad. So what color is she? The reader follows along as Simone examines one color after another and comes up with an answer, and a color, all her own.

Beautiful story of how a young girl finds her place in her mixed family and celebrates herself. Lovely activity at the end that encourages kids to find the words to describe their own tone --none of us are really black or white -- we are humans of different shades.

And should be accepeted as PEOPLE regardless of what skin tone they are.If your child tells you that someone asked what color they are, tell them that they're beautiful regardless of what color they are, and whoever wants to know should mind their own business!I get what the message of this book was trying to send...but it was executed and written poorly...I swear...everyone thinks they can just write a book nowadays....

I enjoy this book, I first checked it out from the library and knew I needed my own copy. I am a huge fan of Louise Hay after reading this book and have some of her other works. Great for anyone on a spiritual path longing to connect with themselves and bring a sense of love and ease into their lives :) Affirmations are truly transformative!

This book changed my life. I know you've heard that said about a lot of books and I'm sure there are other fine books out there. But this one,You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Hay, is the motherbook from which all others evolved. I was introduced to it in 1990, 26 years ago, when I was 42. At the time I was reeling from a pessimistic cancer diagnosis, the end of my marriage, and the development of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I'm almost 69 and this is the book that showed me how to live with and through all that and more. I've given away at least a hundred of these books and this one went to my new friend, Tina, who is excited about the changes in her life she has already made. I can't recommend it highly enough.

This was one of the hardest books I've ever read. This little book took me forever to finish. Not that the writing was hard to digest. It was the work and activities and reflections to make the corrections to bring healing. Which is all still a work in progress. Hey, I've lived 47 years of being broken so I can't expect to heal all that hurt instantly, but this gave me a great starting point and great tools to begin the work.It actually IS working too. I'm choosing to respond to situations differently, and to even look at them differently.My favorite example to tell people from the principles I learned in this book is being on a plane for over 3 hours with a crying baby. No, not crying. Wailing at the top of his or her lungs. As you can imagine, EVERYONE, including myself, was irritated. Some more openly so than others. But I came to a part in this book that talked about giving love to difficult people and situations and giving what you want to receive.So I started sending healing, loving thoughts to that poor baby and the mom. Because I knew she did NOT want to be THAT person, right? The one with the crying, inconsolable child. So I closed my eyes and just sent loving white, calming light to both of them. And prayers for comfort and calm.Guess what happened? The baby stopped crying. Did my thoughts do it? I'm sure what actually happened was the poor kid tuckered him/herself out from all that bawling, BUT...it erased my irritation and made me feel better. It felt good to give, even anonymously, like that. Much better to put positive energy into the world rather than feeding the negative.This book will be one I'll have to reread and revisit from time to time. And the work/exercises are still ongoing. Some I haven't had the courage to try yet. But I'm glad a yoga teacher mentioned this book in passing. It was an answer to an unspoken prayer to be led to a path of healing. I love it. I just wish Louise was still around for me to tell her I'm among her legions of fans now.

This book gave me the key to release all things negative. It took me six months. For years or decades I have struggled with depression. Every ten to twelve years it haunted me again and again - the past. I cannot stress too much that this small book contains the key 'I am willing to release ...". It sounds so easy and it is so easy. This key in conjunction with the 'Power of Now' from Eckart Tolle (books, youtube) was the way for me out of this vicious circle.I hope this review helps others to stumble upon it - it is so worth it. Everybody who is looking for the way out of these vicious circles knows what I am talking about. This finally worked for me.I am so thankful that Louise Hay brought it into the world.

I bought this book on a recommendation of a friend, thinking I would like to create a more positive attitude from within myself. But, after perusing the contents, and as a nurse, I find this book to be completely without scientific merit, shaming, preposterous, and possibly even dangerous and damaging to someone naive enough to take it as fact. For example, author states that the reason for senility in the elderly is "Returning to the so-called safety of childhood. Demanding care and attention. A form of control of those around you. Escapism." And Alzheimer's is caused by "A refusal to deal with the world as it is. Hopelessness and helplessness. Anger.". A diagnosis of either of these problems is devastating both to the individual and to their families. But blaming the individual for a problem most people wouldn't wish on their worse enemy in such a way not only places a big steaming pile of guilt on the patient, it could also create a family dynamic that is non-supportive and possibly even dangerous. Abuse of the elderly with such diseases is a very real problem in some families. Imagine if caretakers truly believed the only reason Mom has senility or Alzheimer's is because of the above reasons.Or, suppose you are diagnosed with cancer. Well that's because of "Deep hurt. Longstanding resentment. Deep secret or grief eating away at the self. Carrying hatreds. "What's the use?"". I find that analysis to be deeply offensive - - not only to cancer patients and cancer survivors but to their families and caretakers and support systems. How dare she! This book is a complete load of crap. Also - interesting note: I was able to return it for a full refund it for a full refund with shipping paid for by labeling it as "defective". Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for positivity and life reform.

I was looking forward to this book because I believe in the holistic mind-body connection. However, this book is a bunch of made-up nonsense that encourages people to take responsibility for any harmful life experience and assigns mythical causes to every disease or physical symptom. I find this incredibly damaging and as a therapist and holistic practitioner I would NEVER recommend it to a client. Instead I recommend the works of either Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk or Dr. Carolyn Leaf.
