I gave this four stars because, to me, it's good but not great. To be sure, my expectations concerning a treatment of theodicy and the goals of this book may not coincide.I was searching for an answer to the question, why is God silent or inactive when mean people attack the innocent. Maybe a little of that near the end of the book. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the way he weaved a study of Joseph into every chapter, and I got some great ideas from that, BUT, there are those in church who struggle with the issue of the innocent suffering and I cannot suggest this book as a resource.

One of the best books I've ever read. My husband has cancer and has suffered so greatly, this book has given us much needed wisdom which strengthens us. I will keep this book and re-read it always. Sometimes truth is hard to swallow but non the less it is truth and with that a Peace follows. Thank you Bob Russell.

There is so much pain because every action has a reaction. My 14 year old son was killed by an automobile . He was in the highway at a spot which the driver did not see in time to stop. My question, or perhaps my dilemma is 'can God's presence bring solace in the agony of the loss of my son?' And the answer for me is 'yes'. He does not ask me not to grieve, but holds me close to His heart as I grieve. This book leads me through the history of God's faithful action through thousands of years of His continual presence in both tragedy and triumph. Thank you Pastor Russell for your testimony.

We did the study based on the movie and book "Acts of God" in our men's bible study group. The analogies based on the story of Joseph hit some major struggles of trials we endure in the modern day. Highly recommend the book and the study. The movie is very moving and well worth watching.

Great book with good material for small group discussion. Lots of deep quesiton discussion and the way it uses the life of Joseph to parallel is solid! NOTE: I wouldn't use the Travelers guide with it. It is really confusing and hard to follow. .

Acts of God is a book about suffering and answers a big question: why do some things happen/why would God allow this? I would recommend watching the movie and reading this book.

Enjoyed this book thoroughly; really gave me a clear perspective on God's love for us.

I picked up this book just out of curiosity. I have no ambition to be a Druid as I'm a practicing Catholic but I'm always interested in other spiritual paths.Philip Carr-Gomm is the leader of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids and is a good writer. This book gave me a very good basic idea of the philosophy of modern druidry and information on historical basis of their order.Even though I don't agree with their path, I did find this book very interesting to read and perhaps there are morsels in the book that can help anyone achieve their spiritual goals.

My first introduction to Neo-pagan Druidry. It's big on ideas, but the history is somewhat suspect. That said, it invited me to explore the path further, and I can't imagine what else I would want from an introductory book.

I really tried to enjoy this book... and I forced myself to read it all the way through. After reading The Druidry Handbook a week prior, I found this book to lack substance and the author's style of writing to be too vague. There wasn't any meat on the bones. The author's tendency to claim almost all good things from the past were created or catalyzed by druids felt like fantasy to me - especially after the concrete, more academic analysis of similar writings and histories in The Druidry Handbook. I suggest buying the other book and skipping this one.

A good starter book, but definitely not worth it for the advanced reader. Give it to your teenagers.

This book is a great introductory and is the one that convinced me to save some money for obod's classes. It covers all the basics of Druidry and I felt very comfortable with druidry wile reading it.

Carr-Comm always communicates his ideas so well. When it comes to Druidry, he is my go-to teacher.

This account of the druid tradition, as it is currently understood and practiced, is both knowledgableand inspired. I enjoyed reading this well written, wide-ranging book, finding it an excellent introductionto a fascinating, contemporary subject.

Another fine book by Philip Carr-Comm. And like Nimue Brown's book worth adding to your library.

This is the best guide for getting to know Madrid quickly and for getting around efficiently. My Spanish friends were impressed with how much I accomplished without their help. Then when we did things together, it was a treat for them as well as for me. I have bought this guide for several friends who wanted me to tell them what to do while they were in Madrid. This guide did most of the explaining. I will be returning to Madrid with the latest version of this guide in early 2015 plus a wonderful more detailed guide in Spanish that I purchased in Madrid on my last trip. Once in Madrid I will pick up the weekly Guia de Ocio, which gives information on specific events (films, dance, theater, music, etc) and their venues as well as the nearest metro line stop. However, my main guide will still be this one.

There doesn't seem to be a good guidebook to Madrid for someone who wants more than the absolute basics. I bought this thinking it might be useful, as some top 10's are. Maybe it is, if you just want to see the most common tourist sites and go to all the tourist places in Madrid.A lot of the book is padding, including a Spanish phrase chapter.In the end. I decided to take a used 2011 Time Out Madrid guide

I do like this series of guides. Very easy to use and gets right to the point, describing not-to-miss attractions, especially good is you have a limited amount of time. Filled with great photographs, this guide is much more than a simple "Top 10" . In includes maps, restaurants, hotels, lots of history and lots of general advice for getting around, banking, etc. I have used this series of guides for several years in several countries and cities and found them very helpful,

Got it for my kindle, an old version of the kindle, it was good for a quick reference, but what I like the most from the EyeWitness books is jump from page to page quickly and enjoy the pictures and look at the very detailed maps... I couldn't do it with my kindle... On top of that I needed wifi to access to some information in the book and I couldn't get it that easily

My wife and I swear by these guide books wherever we go. They have interesting and helpful information and the pocket map has proven to be invaluable in numerous cities. Worth the price and we'll order more for future travel.

It was helpful, although I used Rick Steve's Spain more because it offered additional information and suggested walking routes.

These are my favorite books to buy when traveling. It is so easy to get around and gives you a focus on what to see.

I bought this looking to get some helpful tips on screenwriting, as it's been something I've wanted to do since I was a teenager. But as I neared the end, I instead came to a surprising realization: I don't really WANT to write as much as I thought I did. While it's strange to praise a book ABOUT screenwriting for making me realize I don't want to really write, it's still a valuable lesson and I feel strangely...unburdened now.My own reaction aside this is great for aspiring and current writers, with some really helpful tips about the process and more importantly about the economy of words. I recommend it for anyone interested in screenwriting but watch out: it might shatter your whole worldview in a way you don't expect.

When I started writing I thought I was doing a pretty good job of it. I bought software for screenplays and was on my way. How wrong can a person be. Well let me tell you I was way off course. Finally I had a review and was told that if I wanted to sell a screenplay I should buy this book titled "YOUR (MY) SCREENPLAY SUCKS", it will help me remove a lot of the bumps in my screenplay. So far the recommendation was correct. I have made numerous corrections that were never noted to me in reviews. I had no idea how far off base I was. For a writer, this book is a great road map to writing...............David

The author gives great writing advice in a funny, if not condescending way. But what do you expect from a book that exists for the purpose of telling you how much you suck at writing? I wouldn't recommend this as a gift for your ten year old. There are some innuendos that may be inappropriate for children, but are also used in a way to help the reader understand writing. The jokes may go over a child's head, therefore confusing them, and it's also quite a bit weighty, but it's perfect for a fully grown adult with an antagonistic sense of humor -- and it's certainly not overrated like, say, an unnamed book about rescuing felines.

Our eclectic Nebraska Writers Workshop that meets weekly used this book for short pithy presentations in the Scripting sessions throughout 2015. My latest two screenplays being marketed by my manager benefited from several of the topics, especially at the revision stage. I gave this book as a graduation gift to my second teen accepted to the NYU Film School to enhance her cinematic storytelling.

Great book! Lots of good examples and good advice. Just when I thought I had my formatting down, my FADE IN: spacing was wrong. Not sure why Final Draft sets the HEADER spacing as 2 spaces by default. Needs to be one, according to Akers. Tough love that all aspiring screenwriters need to hear towards the end. Suck it up folks! Don't pick up that gun yet. But keep on writing because with this book and some good luck, you'll get closer to your goals. Five stars for content, minus one because of the small print. Should've gotten the Kindle edition.

If you’re thinking about writing a screenplay for the FIRST time, do not read this book. It may overwhelm or even discourage you. Plus, you'll need to understand the fundamentals.Try Screenplay by Syd Fields. That’s your best bet. BUT if you’ve written a script or two and you want to take your writing to the next level, you must read this book. Again, you must read this book. He sums up everything you will and have ever done wrong in your screenwriting career. But he doesn’t stop there. He goes on to explain, in detail, how to avoid and correct these mistakes. I swear, every other page was an aha! moment. I’ve written four scripts and thankfully, I have one option under my belt. I wish that I had this book sooner. Warning, he may piss you off. He’s harsh. But guess what? Read this book and your screenplay won’t suck. Get this book.

I love this book. You can read it a bit at a time. There are clear suggestions and exercises on how to make your screenplay better. It doesn't make the process any less painful to keep ripping up your script, but it will make your script better, and help make you a better writer. You can be your first own script consultant.Let go of your emotional attachment to your script, and use this book to help make sure you are telling the best story in the best way you can.

This is one of the more unique books on screenwriting - and writing in general - that I have read, and to say it's useful is an understatement.While it does have a handful of insights that are pretty common in books on writing (formatting, for example), it's true value lies in how Akers takes you through the ways your screenplay does suck - and admitting it is just the first step - and exactly what you need to do or rethink or rewrite to make it better. He is dead on target with all of his points - some I've done and others I was reminded not to do.Also, Akers's voice in the book is great and makes it fun to read.This is one of only a couple of books that I keep referring back to as I work on my own projects.
